The history of SVCA

A meeting place for the industry since 1985
 
1973  Sweden’s first private equity company Företagskapital was founded.

1981  Several venture capital firms were founded, including Wermia, Svecia Invest, VenCap, Ven-Tech, Four Seasons Venture Capital, Svenskt Tillväxtkapital and Improvator.

1985  The Swedish Private Equity & Venture Capital Association, SVCA, was founded.

1986  Sweden’s first buyout company, Procuritas, was founded.

1988  SVCA conducted the first lobbying campaign to inform politicians about the importance of a well-functioning private equity market. The report “Transfer the risk to the market” was released.

1989  Industri Kapital and Nordic Capital were founded.

1989  SVCA organised a venture capital field trip to the US with visits to venture funds and portfolio companies.

1994  EQT and InnovationsKapital were founded.

1996  Industrifonden started to provide equity capital and launched a regional investment.

1998  SVCA employed an executive member on a part-time basis.

2002  SVCA opened its own office on Grev Turegatan, Stockholm

2005  SVCA launched an extensive communications project and employed a Head of Communications for the first time. A three-year business angel project was also started at the same time.

2006  The Alliance included private equity deductions in the government declaration.

2007  Mats Odell, Minister for Financial Markets, promised to work for the abolishment of permanent establishments.

2010  SVCA celebrated its 25-year anniversary and had five full-time employees. Opinion building, industry research and events are three of the cornerstones in the operations. 

A growing industry

In 1985, SVCA had 25 members, managed capital of SEK 1.5 bn and a total of 70 portfolio companies.

In 2010, SVCA has 120 investing members, managed capital of SEK 482 bn and a total of 700 portfolio companies.
